Diet

Native to African plains and low hill valleys, they subsist on a diet of assorted vegetation and small plants. Pygmy goats were originally called the Cameroon Dwarf Goat, named after the region of Africa where the y originated. They are varied in coloring, ranging from brown, black, gray, white or a mixture of all. They have a full medium coat that varies in density dependent on climate and season. The adult male has a full, long beard while the females may have only a sparse beard or none at all. The pygmy goat was exported to Sweden and Germany, where they were displayed as exotic animals in zoos and by private owners. They were brought into the United States in 1959 by New York's Catskill Game Farm. Although used primarily as a food source in Africa, they were used as display animals and pets in other countries were they had been imported.
